EMPLOYED PHYSICIAN NETWORK PLANNING and TURNAROUND

Many health systems that employ physicians are experiencing significant financial losses from those practices. As a result, organizations are faced with the decision whether to reengineer or transition those physicians back into private practice.

Network, physician and practice profiles can be effective tools to identify the appropriate course. The profiles are designed to identify network, physician and practice issues that are impacting physician productivity or practice profitability.

The profiles can be adapted to address a specific concern. If a new compensation plan is being introduced, the profile can be used to identify issues that may impact a physician’s ability to optimize his or her compensation under the new model. The profiles may identify the need to reengineer the practice, or restructure the entire network.

If the decision is made to transition physicians back into private practice, it is critical to do this in a manner that will keep the physician aligned with the health system. The transition must be successful for the both physicians and the organization.

DMI works with physicians, practice staff and management to:

  • Conduct a thorough operational assessment of practice operations as well as centralized network management and support functions
  • Develop network, physician and practice profiles
  • Identify and evaluate factors impacting practice performance (productivity, billing and collections, operation efficiency and compensation)
  • Define “successful turnaround” (e.g., breakeven in a specific timeframe)
  • Develop a detailed action plan to achieve the turnaround or transition objectives. The action plan will identify areas to target responsible parties and priorites
